Project Hush - Bike carb mission !

Post by walsh123 »

Here's my little secret project that only half the forum know about  but you never know might suprise a few of you  I was going to wait until the dyno day to unveil it, but sadly that wont be happening now :(

So here's my daily beater :lol: The day i got it, 5th of november;

Image

Yep i bought out the competition :OD

Image

Image

Sadly its not all been fun and games though, ive had a couple of problems with the old girl, i blame the previous owner :P

The clutch was slipping rather badly i adjusted it as i went down motorway on the way back, adjust services then drive to next services until i got it to be reasonable, i managed to hold off changing it until christmas i had an eventful boxing day

Image

As it was christmas hols, my boss at the garage let me do the clutch at the garage, wierdly im alot quicker at doing it on the floor :| took me bloody ages on the ramp

Let the strip down begin. (also fitted cam cover from my old D15)

Driveshafts out

box off

Image

Friction plate

Image

Image

Image

Oh so that where all my friction plate is, took an age to clean that up :o Damn Ed with his pensioner driving riding the clutch :P

Image

With clutch done i started to mess around with the car abit, i fitted some koni adjustable front shocks and spax rear shocks with some 35mm springs for a Vt and some loop eye LCA's that i poly bushed. Kept it roughly same height as standard but made it much stiffer

A month or so later i bought some second hand meisters for the Dx, stripped them down cleaned them all out ready to fit to it, and yeah couldnt resist they ended up on the Gl

Image

Image

Image

Image

Its fairly low but could easily go lower about another inch all round  But im not a mad tyte scene junky (just ignore the windeflectors n bra  ) so will be staying that height as it doesnt scrape on anything and the handling is AMAZING  Couldnt believe the difference in steering response alone, also great as i can cruise around with on the softest setting in perfect comfort and then break my spine when going for a blast :OD

Image

Thats about everything i have pictures of, but i have also tuckedthe pas side wiring loom, replaced driver side caliper as it stuck on and smoked out the halfords car park when i got to work   swapped the side repeaters for original ones and fitted USDM sidelights. Oh and of course undersealed it.

Since i got it ive done about 3000 miles and enjoyed everyone of one them apart from the brake binding

But sadly i cant use it anymore as i just cant realistically afford to insure it :( It was on a open trade policy but sadly as premiums have gone up so much my boss didnt want to get another open policy and i cant afford the £7,000 insurance  Soim unsure what to do now but i have some plans that i have to do before anything else

Wow 7000

Just curious, why is it that high?

If I had to bring an EE9 to Malta, the road tax is expensive but not the insurance. About £800 a year for road tax but the insurance is only about £200.

Yeah standard height is never good not with power it has anyway made for some interesting handling characteristics
Gizmo wrote:Thought you had insurance sorted.....
Yeah it was all good man, but as boss had to renew his policy i cant use it now as the new policy he has wont cover me after working hours :(

I am trying sort out something though.

Just out of interest what is the deal with fully comp insurance ? Are you covered to drive someone elses car third party with the owners permission ? As if so that would make sense for me to get as i culd use the accord then aswell to pick up parts. Otherwise ill just look for TPF&T
