DA9

Post by Marc_EE9 »

So after two months in Australia, I've bought a car.
It's a 1990 DA9 Integra, which has a B18A1. I need to check what gearbox, but I think it's a YS1.

I'm the third owner, has been regulary serviced, just had new CV's (apparently), tyres, battery, timing belt etc, all it needs is a new backbox, TRE's and a CV boot, and it's all good. Runs sweet as a nut, and handles brilliantly. Feels like a cross between a CRX and DC2 Integra.

The bonnet and drivers wing were repainted at some stage due to fading, so I will look to get that done later on.
Needs a thorough clean, nothing I can't handle though.

And I've also bought some Mugen RNR's, just need to pick them up. And I might get some DC2 Tein Superstreet's... not sure yet.

Yeah, B18A is non-Vtec. Still very responsive and pulls well.

I don't think there's any point to putting a Vtec head on, much like the B20 - so I've come to realise. For the B18 it's easier and cheaper just swapping the engine for a B18C.
It seems the B18A is a good engine for boost, like the D16A9 and B20Z.

I am happy how it is now. Clutch is lively, pulls really smoothly and doesn't hang around. Kind of feels like a standard B16A but you don't rev to 8000 aggressively. I do plan to get a DC2 intake and exhaust manifolds to help it breathe better, and HKS exhaust (when I can afford it).

Insurance was only $450 for the year, with agreed value at $3000. Excess is high but thats how it is out here.

If you want to know how much Honda's are here, go on carsales.com.au or Gumtree.com.au
Basically triple what they are in the UK, unfortunately. But cars are much better kept here and have NO rot. Mine has 0% rust.

Awesome, Ys1 is probably gonna be the normal ratio box, the short ratio box came on the B16a, both called Ys1.

I've been on some missions today.

Found a HUGE scrap yard half hour out of the city, it literally had a thousand cars, most Japanese. Some 2G/3G/4G/5G Civics, City's, CL Accords, old Preludes.... it was great. I found a red DA9 too and got some rear mudflaps off it. I will go back next week after I get paid and take the bonnet, a wing and interior trims.

To pass the RWC I need a new CV boot ($10), new TRE's ($37e), and I need a backbox. But can only find one for $275. And a HKS HiSpec is $650 which I can't justify at the moment.

Gave the car a clean today - not as thorough as I'd of liked - I still need to shampoo the seats and carpet, and do the engine bay, and polish the whole car. The gearbox code is A1, so it might be an earlier model with only 130bhp not 140.

Have to start raiding the scrap yard for all the option parts Marc.
Oh, and shuttle rear arches :D

IIRC it shares the intake stud pattern with the B20 head.
So there are some differences with the PR3 head pattern, but easily over come with a drill and hacksaw.

There was only one DA there, and mine has most options already. I was looking for armrests and dashmats, but nothing. They dont even have fog lights here so can't even take those.
Still havent seen any 4G Shuttles though.

B18A has same pattern as B16A/B18C, or at least I think it does.

Sorry mate...

It wasn't much drama tho. Take a B20 manifold and a B16 manifold. Chop chop, small weld.

I do tend to skip through things, but I could of sworn a few people have said to me the same. So neither are a straight fit?
