My Weekend Toy! - Big Update

Post by gjukonline »

Today's the day I purchased my 1991 civic GL 1400. Im an apprentice at a garage and it was a customer's car, her father owned it from New and passed away so she has been driving it everyday for the last seven years. She finally decided to get a new car and wanted me to buy it so it would be looked after instead of it being part ex'd and scrapped.
I drive a 2006 megane diesel so this is a pure toy for me. I just want to enjoy it, I've never done a track day or anything either so hoping this civic can introduce me!

I payed £150 for it. It's got 4 months tax, M.O.T until November & half a tank of petrol too. The owner also bought me 8 carlings!!

Some pics...

First I attacked the engine bay!

I then followed a few guides from here starting with the spoiler tilt

I then cleaned the carbs up

Whilst the carbs were apart I decided to stiffen up the springs

finally, I took the restricting flap out.

Now I need to buy some goodies!!

Feedback appreciated!

Cheers guys :)

Its in very good nick for a 21 year old but its got small rust patches here and there which I will sort & A few scratches on bumpers. Oh and the front bumpers slightly damaged below the headlight. Might want to replace bumpers. are there many bumper options?

So i've had her 5 weeks now and my first bunch of goodies have turned up! Quite excited to be fair!

I'm going to give the VTEC mini-me a go!
First and most importantly, I've purchased a z6 VTEC head from pikey-pete off here (Cheers again!)
Plans for this is skim it, port polish, possibly all new valves & definitely stem seals too and maybe a D15B cam.

Also some bike filters

BuddyClub VTEC controller

Image

Cold air ducting

and pinstriping tape for the bump strips!

Next job is to sort out a fuel pump, and a vernier cam gear, head gasket & head set, timing kit.

any comments welcome!

He means d15b vtec from the import eg's and del sols.

Id look up the specs between the first though dude as I don't think there is too much difference between the two cams.

Id also look at port matching the inlet as I have a zc speed sohc>to dohc inlet adapter and the its meant for a vtec manifold and when I offered a gl manifold up I found our ports are tiny in comparison. I'll throw a picture up when I can.

I've been told it has a slightly more aggressive vtec lobe. But not done any homework yet. As for the ports cheers for the heads up if you could put a pic up that would be great. I'll look into it

the JDM D15B Cam is slightly more agressive. But you are talking 1-2hp at the most

In that case I won't be spending the extra money on it. I've got a bit of homework to do before I put it all together. Want to get it right first time.
