Gaz Coilover setting

Post by callum0892 »

Hey,

Just wondering what settings you are running if you're on the Gaz GHA's? Damping, camber etc

Track car only, so not much help I'm afraid. Full hard on the rear dampers isn't very comfy on the roads

I think road springs are IRO 250/125 F/R

Did yours fit the rear LCA's OK? I had to get EK bushes fitted as mine were 10mm too narrow. i told gaz so i hope they are making the forks the correct width now.

No worries! sure mine will see some track use as I am at Castle Combe most days now.
Cant comment on the fitment other than they are fitted! aftermarket LCA's on it atm, but ill have a look to see if they have been bent out etc,

so were mine... If you search the crx forum you'll see they have been making the forks 10mm too small for years..

Well they must have been later ones as they went straight on the car. 99% sure they were not bent.

Ek shape civics had a smaller bush than ef as I had ek rears at one stage and had to bend them out. That's probably why they made them to small.

I have 3/4 on rear and half turn on the fronts! Seems to work pretty well decked

Why do you run the spring rates that way round ?

Because that's the way the car came setup. Bear in mind this was a works car and has won championships in UK club racing, so it does work. No understeer, a bit lively at the back, and needs the rear shocks backed off a bit in the wet

Yeah I always thought you run harder at rear, especially in FF cars.

I know what you mean, I thought so too. But it seems to work. Maybe its because the effective spring rate calcs are different for double wishbone suspension?

I don't think Pete Dixon has ever had the springs tested in his car, but he seems to think they are similar to mine. He also has a double thickness front arb.

Pete has driven my car at cadwell & said it handled quite similar to his

Hi edh is there a thread on the spec of your car and what it has done, if not could you be kind enough to provide a bit of info. Most people run spring rates round the other way to you, hence my original question, some of the MGs run 800 on the rear. We run 400 all round as can't be bothered changing springs if its a wet race, seems to work ok, but may change as we need to up the ante. Thanks Barry.

Hi Barry

There might be a thread somewhere - but, in short
It was originally a Honda works car, run by Asquith motorsport. Group N rallying and circuit racing (in Willhire 24hrs). then went to Grant elliott who won roadsaloons in 1995 (I think), and subsequently Simon Turner, who also won roadsaloons. I figured if it worked for them, that was fine. Rear dampers need winding right up to get the back end moving though. I was surprised when i got the poundage measured - gaz did it for me when i bought the new shocks.

Most of the rest is standard - arb's, wishbones etc.. It's now running a B18 block / B16 head, Integra S80 hydro box with shorter 4 & 5, raxles, 2.5" stainless exhaust, gaz shocks. Still got steel panels (apart from bonnet) and glass.

here's an old article from its Honda days (my car is #32 i think)
