What to do about a fender bender?

Post by DrCunz »

Well managed to bump the back of a ford galaxy yesterday with no damage to it bar a couple of scratches on its bumper.
However mine looks like this

Was a sub 5 mph shunt as traffic was nose to tail, was my fault and the other person wants to run it through his insurance. What happens next? First accident in 20 years so I don't know what happens. Know I can fix mine as its all superficial new headlight, new bumber new indicator, possibly new wing and a front filler bar, but if insurance is involved then there isn't much point.
I am fully comp with no claims protection with all mods declared.
Any info anyone has would be good. Sort of puts the tyre question out the window now.
Thanks

See if you can sort it with the guy without going through the insurance; as is typical with insurance companies they'll take forever. If he's only got a few scratches why does he feel the need to go through the insurance? Point out its more hassle for him and yourself. Ask him to get a few quotes from body shops and if it was me I'd just give him the cash and be done with it

You should be ok - you're not claiming for your car so I would of thought fixing it is down to you, its the damage to his that the claim will be about, unless you want to claim for your damage? (I wouldn't though as its be classed as a write off). Like I say, just see if you can sort it out without going through the insurance - he will be waiting months otherwise as inusurance companies are painfully slow at dealing with stuff like this

:(

plus it will make your insurance premium go up if you claim through either of the drivers insurance.

That othar guy is just being a prick and trying to mke some money from personal injury, your insurance is going to be affected by this anyway so you might aswell claim and make some money.

As soon as he mentioned about sore back and neck I thought there'd be no point in trying to keep mine. If its all going through insurance it'd a right royal pain in arse and yeah he is being a prick no doubt bout that

mph shunt and hes complaining of a back and neck, sounds very very fishy.

And i always thought Whiplash injuries were delayed, and took a few days to appear.

Mine did but then i was hit at 70mph by a Rover 800
