Whats the best to do!

Post by davidT »

Right since my cars going to be off the road for a while im trying to think of the best way of going for more power!

so far im thinking b20 , b18 , or turbo my b16.

i have quite a good idea of whats needed going b20 or b18. But obviously im thinking if i go turbo it could be alot more power!

If i do go for the turbo i would be getting pistons etc and doing it properly. But just wondering whats the best to do, buy one of those complete kits and just change some parts of it, or buy everything seperate?

Daz has done a good write up on doing a B20, listing all the parts required, its a sticky in the engine section. that would be my choice, and my suggestion. n/a ftw

but a b16 turbo does sound nice 8)

Depends what you want from the car TBH, but if it's a daily driver I'd go nasp.

yeah ive had a good read over daz's page which makes the b20 sound very good tbh.

But the car wont be a daily driver, will only be out for events and summer days realy.

Ive read up alot on b20/b18 but i dont realy have much no how about turbo builds. just as in which turbo's are best to go for and also manifolds as theres such a big range! Is there any good threads on turbo information?

cheers again!

If you are lacking in engine building knowledge then I'd consider buying one of Daz's ready built B20's and having him fit it.
It's probably the most cost effective route if you have the cash verses spending a long time collecting bits and then potentially making mistakes as you go along !!

Stock engine.
T28 from a pulsar or something similar.
Finding all the bits, making it work out and then of course tuning it.
and looking after it. Not getting boost happy, etc.

You say your after a bit more power, but have you ever been in a well tuned B20?

Not a randomn thrown together b20 i mean a properly tuned B20 by some one who knows how to tune a B20?

My b20's put out similar torque and power figures to a low blow B16.

Well said.

If I was in your shoes, i'd go for a fully built B18C4 turbo.

If its done properly you can have a nice reliable 300hp.

That would be more than enough to frighten your grandparents.

is the b18c4 alot better to boost than a b16 then? been having a we look and looks like most stuff if good prices for piston and rod combos! Where is the best pleace to get a manifold from? most of the ones ive seen are the xs power ones which are ment to be crap!

Bore size is the same iirc so low comp forgies for a b16 and b18 should be the same. Rods will be different though.

Then again I may be wrong.

I wouldnt know where to start looking for turbo bits but I reckon eBay.com would be a good start.

Also speak to Daz and Mark (if you can get hold of him), they have a mountain of knowledge between them.

From what I have heard the c4 is probably your best bet for a turbo build.

<sigh> here we go again.

What is your budget?
Because that is the most important thing. What you can afford to spend pretty much dictates what you can do.

Plus it's evident that you are in need of a lot more research

im hoping around £2000 for a start as a budget for parts then the mapping on top of that. But as the cars off the road untill its fully rebuilt so not realy set to a certain budget tbh.

Im having a read through forced induction threads this now to get an idea of what i need to get as a setup for what i want!
