Honda Civic Shuttle 1.6i 4WD (Real Time)

Chianti Red/R67-M
So I picked this up on Monday night, after parting with a reasonable amount of cash. I think I could of got it a bit cheaper if it was daylight, and if I wasn't so excited! , but the guy had a lot of phone calls and knew it was sought after. The ad said 89k, but it actually has 74k (same mileage as my VT when I bought it ), with lots of paperwork to back it up. Having a service every year, and as its pretty low mileage for a 1989 car, its had its oil changed regulary etc..
Interior is pretty spotless, apart from one or two small nicks on the rear door card. I also found a little tray that slides out the front of the passengers seat in the front, well cool!! The bonnet, doors and boot all shut perfectly, but the boot struts need replacing. The spare wheel, jack and tools look like it had never been used! All the electrics, lights and heaters work spot on, as does the central locking.
Under the hood is the D16A7 SOHC PGMFi engine
It starts first time, drives spot on, although a bit tappy on "cold" start, and a slightly sloppy gearstick. After reading Nominous' thread it seems a common accurance. It has an SL gear, which is Super Low I'm guessing, for hill starts etc, its pretty wierd having 2 first gears, so I doubt I will use it. The 4WD system feels great and you just go straight away froms standing - I can't wait until its on the road, so I can test it out!
Now the bad bits...
After removing the rear arch trims and skirts, and throwing those stupid arch trims away, there was a bit more rust than I thought. I bit of a bodge one side, the other seems to have been treated but not sprayed. Hopefully someone I know will be sorting it out for me. I don't think it warrants a whole arch replacement or sill, I hope. A couple of the screws holding the skirts on have rusted out underneath, so that would need cutting out and patching.
I had to remove the rear drivers light as it was full of water! I've dried it out and fitted it back, but god damn there are fiddly buggers to unscrew! It doesn't sit as it should, so I'll have to bend the bracket outwards a bit to suit.
Things I need to get/do:
1. Get rusty rear arches/sills repaired
2. Sort out front wing
3. Sort door panel rust patch
4. Total strip top to bottom, rust proof and refurb any parts etc
5. Replace front passenger door bump strip
6. Replace passenger's sun visor, as its bent
7. Fit new radiator and expansion bottle
8. Replace headunit - how do you get OEM ones out???
9. Get a new release pin for rear seat
BUT, hopefully, if all goes well, a will have all the parts I need and more on Saturday, apart from the radiator.
Un-touched..
Busted door mould
Scuffs to bumpers
Dinged wing
RUST!!
Boot contents, wank arch trims and 'the tray' ...
Dirty!
All clean, and back in...
Loads of cubby holes!!
Rear light out...
Radiator
Interior shots...
Mileage and steering wheel badge shot
I already put some cup holders in as it doesn't have a dash mat
Unused ashtray and lighter
'The tray'
Over all I'm really happy, but will be more happy when the rust is sorted!
Future plans:
- Colour code bumpers (not fully)
- Re-furb steelies
- Remove rear boot lock
- I may change the headlights to single bulb, still undecided
- Find some roof bars!

I'm guessing the super low gear is for off roading so you can climb some steep grassy hills.
Some one who had it before you must have been a rubbish driver as there seems to be a dent on evey corner.
I wonder whos the Mint VT in the background is.
and yes, that would be my VT. looks more like an EF9 from that distance!
Saturday is the day!!
Second day in, and I've covered all the rust with gaffer tape if it rains. I might try and get it in the garage, but I need to clear up a lot of stuff.
Removed the headunit, and I've straightened up all the rubber seals that had folded on the outside, round the windows etc..
I also stuck a bit of windscreen trim down and filled it with black sealant.
And I noticed some vents under the front seats that circulate air to the rear passengers!
Got to work on a bubble of rust on the bootlid around the badge...
Kurust treatment
I have looked through all the paper work and everything checks out. Hasn't had any major problems, apart from the rust advisory on the last MOT, and servicing. It had a new windscreen not long ago due to a chip that had turned into a crack. And I was also very happy to find it has had a new clutch and gearbox oil change in January, around 2,000 miles ago.

Day Three
Not such a good one.
Today I worked the drivers side of the car. I stripped the doors down to check for rust. The front door is all good apart from this hinge has snapped off the inside skin...
Not quite sure what to do about that...
The rear however was a bitch! Took me forever to get the door card off as one screw would not budge, no matter what I tried, so ended up getting raged and snapping the trim that it was attached with. The column of rust on the door (pictured below) is total rusty through to the bottom inside the door - so I'm going to have to sort a new door, and also make sure the other side isn't the same and prevent it from happening again - as there are gaps at the top where water can run down. I think the obvious option is to treat the window columns with some kind of waxoil product. I have a can, but its just a clear liquid spray?
I also managed to snap some window sill clips and the bottom D-pillar vent trim clip.
Managed to superglue these ones back together, but I still need one for the D pillar trim...
On Saturday, Daz is delivering a 1.4 GL Shuttle, and I'm hoping, or rather praying, the door and trim pieces I need are intact and not shagged! Fingers crossed!
Tomorrow... passenger side
