So my dizzy was making some crazy painful screeching noises, started at the last South Mimm's meet.

I took the cap off and this is what I found...

I ordered my new one from azcarparts (via ebay), came to £160 delivered, next day, and it has a LIFETIME guarantee. I'm getting the mechanic down road to fit it and setup the timing tomorrow, as my dad offered to pay for it as he knows I need my car, and with no hiccups etc, so I can't complain.
I'll get my old unit reconditioned, and sell it on no doubt.

New unit:

I'm sure it's cheaper over the phone, but I had an ebay voucher to use up, plus I get nectar points, and more ebay plus points! :D

Im not 100% but from looking at it from here your cap is damaged.

Maybe your dizzy is fine and it just needs a new cap?

That is what I was thinking. Normally a new rotor arm and cap an dall is fixed.

Bit late for that now isn't it!

I'll see tomorrow.
I'd rather replace the whole thing now, then for something else to go on it in 6 months, and have to do it all again.

Yeh, that's what I've read, on a few threads/forums.
If there was no dust, yeh properly just the rotor, but I didn't want to chance it.

Best just to replace the whole thing as you have it now if your dizzy is an old one.

I am willing to bet your car feels a lot better once the new one is on.

Little update.

So I took off the new dizzy I bought, and put a 2nd hand OEM unit on - as I wasn't happy with the quality and fitment of the unit. The HT leads wouldn't stay on the cap, and I was getting a great loss of power even with the timing set correctly.

Here is the difference between the non-Honda and the OEM units...
You can see the non-Honda unit has a smaller cam 'key', and it is also got a lot of play, up and down, unlike the usual side-to-side movement...

I have a timing issue, but at least its nearly back to normal...

I'm still trying to repair my original 'factory' dizzy, but the last screw for the ignition module rounded off. I tried to cut a slot for a flat blade screwdriver, but that made it worse. I then tried putting some liquid metal on it, but it wouldnt bond to the screw well, so that was no good either. I'm going to get my dad on the case, otherwise I need to cut the head off and twist the thread out with some long nose pliers.
I have taken a lot of pictures, and will post up when I've sorted it, along with a how-to.

Got these in the post from ef9_sir today! :D :D :D
Came with very helpful wiring instructions, with photos. (thanks Stu!)

I'll get them fitted over the weekend. Along with some JDM plastic headlights I have.
