Update

Dowel pin remove and head sitting on bottom end
Carbs cleaned and painted
Ordered headgasket & timing belt.. Garage Discount FTW!

Was told by previous owner the car was drinking water
i reckoned it was the headgasket but no signs of warping
upon further inspection turned out the water pump housing was in S**t
so took it off and the f**king dowel in the housing snapped into the engine

With regard to the light weight crank pulley...don't bother. The crank is balanced with OEM one..if you fit a light one on an engine with some miles on the clock you are asking for bearing and oil pump issues as the crank will be no longer 'balanced' and you will also encourage unpleasant harmonic vibrations to run riot with your bottom end. This subject is somewhat open to debate...but I really wouldn't risk it...and for the small amount of weight reduction, it would give hardly any noticable gains.

cant wait to see this one done , it'll be a quick EF1 , as will tommys EF1 when its finished , ill have a lot of catching up to do in my 1300! good luck with it
