Re: Gray ED7 - Swap complete!
Some more progress over the last two days
Wiring harness tucked on left side of the engine..
And on the right side..
Injector wiring location (not visible from the front at all)
Close up of the main engine harness.. Had to crimp wires for the TPS as they were just twisted together and taped over
I hacked up an old ED6 interior loom to get the rubber boot.. The old one was removed from interior loom and a new boot put on the engine loom.. Two connectors done, two to go
Wire colors written down..
Connector depinned
Wires through the boot and pinned back..
Last connector halfway there..
And that is it for the left side
Did the same for the right side connectors.. Injector resistor box will be tucked up high inside the car near the fuses..
This scene was before i did all the work..
Mock up of the final location for the wiring.. Ignore the left side as that still needs to be routed outside (underneath the fender and onto the lights, radiator fan..)
Next up on list of things to do is:
- removing the harness to tape it back up
- figuring a position for the engine fusebox
- extending wire for the alternator positive terminal (to the engine fusebox)
- battery relocation to the boot (figure out where to route the positive wire to the engine bay)
- finish reinstalling fuel, coolant and vacuum connections
- fill the engine, transmission, brake booster with fluids
- bleed the system and hopefully have a running engine till the end of the month

Re: Gray ED7 - Swap complete!
So haven't updated in a while..
Finished my wire tuck for the essentials, just need to do passenger side lights and horn..
Somewhere in the process
I swear i could call myself Sticky Fingers after that day
Final engine bay wiring location
Refurbished and cleaned starter, connected positive wire and motor fusebox wire
Only pic i have of my now refurbished alternator.. New brass colectors and brushes, other parts were checked and bearings regreased.
Drivers side wire tuck nearly complete
Fitted the dashboard insulator back up, with wires all properly in place now
Drivers side wire tuck complete, just need to tape the rest of it back up
Started assembling the ventilation back up - i've also had the insulating foam redone with a bit thicker one, worked wonders!
A few hours later - thanks to the wiring below dash which wouldnt go back in place properly - a nice view
Last night i've then went to the garage and put the fluids back inside my engine. (MTF3, temporary 10W40 oil just to flush out flush the debris and some fuel in the tank..) Also fitted my freshly painted rocker cover - loving it
After some fuss with the engine grounds i've used two temporary jumper cables and i've had my first start in 2 years since i started this project!
Couldnt let it run as i've got no exhaust mid pipe and it was really late.. Packed and went home with a big smile on my face

Re: Gray ED7 - First start successful
Great work lad! Looks like we're around the same stage! At least yours is in and running tho lol! Tucked bay looks awesome!
Re: Gray ED7 - First start successful
Really upset i haven't had the chance to work on this since october.. Started going back to college and i'm very limited money and time wise..
As you all may have noticed i'm currently swapping my sister's BA4 Prelude. It's coming to an end and then i can devote my attention to the Civic
I've finally gotten my last bit of the EE9 front end puzzle. The EF6 slam panel

You have no idea how horrible this experience was for me.. Took so long, it's not 100% perfect, but it's over and i'm glad!
Can't wait till i can drive the car so i can start enjoying this thing instead always wrenching it

Loving that last engine bay pic bro! good work man coming along nicely!
Re: Gray ED7 - First start successful
I can deal with a wire tuck, but shaving and smoothing engine bay, nope. Never a.g.a.i.n.!walsh123 wrote:Hahah trust me i know all too well ive done three loom tucks, every time i say never again

The best i'll do if i try again is sand it down and just paint it like it is.
Thanks, comments like this make me want to go to the garage right away and build it all back up, but i can't cause of college examssixteen16 wrote:Loving that last engine bay pic bro! good work man coming along nicely!
Re: Gray ED7 - First start successful
Right then.. Finally managed to clear out my garage and find some time to start working on this again.
Started it with an easy job of changing driveshaft boots..
All changed and cleaned, packed with new grease..
One side done..
And the other aswell.
Gotta get my windscreen to the garage as it's getting mounted in the coming week
Short update, but there's progress!

Re: Gray ED7 - Slow progress..
So there has been some good progress and some progress in the wrong direction..
Yesterday i've booked a time for the guy to come and stick in my windshield..
And so he did and all went well..
Windshield on the car, even though the guy was sloppy and not doing the quality work a glass repair shop employee should provide!
He got the Sika glue on my bodywork and then he wiped it with paint thinner.. Which ofcourse made my flat clearcoat turn out with some spots and i noticed that only after he left..
So now they're claiming they can get this out but i'm very skeptical and almost at the end of the line.. They said their bodywork guy is saying that he's got a cleaning agent for this kind of issues, but i very much doubt he can do anything about it other than repainting the roof..
So now i'm left in two minds - fix this and keep the flat paint or just respray the whole car in a metallic clearcoat paint.
I gotta paint the bonnet, rear wing, drivers side door and now the roof, so that's basically half the car. It's still disassembled and it would just need to be flattened and repainted..
I'll come up with a solution while i'm at the seaside next week with a cold beer in my hand.

Re: Gray ED7 - Slow progress..
Ah well, a year later.. The story continues. Decided i'd spray this in another color and be done with it. Flat paint so ungrateful i won't ever be doing it again.
The car was moved to a friends garage where we're working on it together..
Seeing the first rays of sun after a year and a half..
In company of Hakosukas sedan
Its new home, next to another "racecar"
Started working on it yesterday, should be moving quickly now!
This paint is impossible to get down.. Blew thru 6 discs of 320 grit sandpaper just for the doors..
I'll try to keep updates coming somewhat regularly, stay tuned.
