Only the second time for me.

However, it was bought from High Wycombe by my younger brother in 2001, owned by him for 3 years, then sold to his mate that let it rot in a leaky garage, then I bought it, restored it, had it for about 5 years or so, then forced to sell and now back with me.
So me and it have history.

It was the car my brother was pulled over in by the police for racing a 106 GTI right in front of me in the same layby I was in waiting for my mates in my old EG9. Up to that point he didnt hang around with us, and said he didn't rag it around. LOL.

Then after that he hung around more and every RWYB up Santa Pod he beat me in my EG9 consistantly.

So I know the car very well.

Was probably me, I had a blue 106 GTI at that time and the lay by and surrounding area was my playground

Re: I bought my old EE9 back! Update 3/11/14 paintwork resto

More boring updates, to a slow cash-less project!

I enjoy free results, so cutting back, polishing and waxing the paint was still enjoyable.

All work was done by hand using old skool T-Cut, Auto Glym ultra deep shine polish and Colinite wax.

So the whole car was rough to touch and faded. Lots of dirt, tree sap etc was stuck on, and some of it has stained deep into the clear coat.

The bonnet. 1st pass of T-Cut on left and right side is untouched

The sides were similar and didn't reall have a shine, but it was hard to get pictures in the garage. I was doing this on hour or so a night as much as possible. Its taken about 8 weeks to do the whole car.

More pictures to give an idea of the condition of the paint.
The roof, to the right of the sunroof is T-Cut, you can see the line of old vs shiny paint.

Then once the whole car was done, I gave the whole car a 2nd coat of wax.

Reflection shots.

Other than that, I found a decent steering wheel at a aircooled VW autojumble, that I'llk clean up, then I desperately need the rack end bush doing, and ultimately some more Meister R's.

Heres a semi shakey arty shot.

Looking much better mate than when I saw it when you first got it back!

Have you put the new rear bench in yet?

Yes forgot about that, same night i collected it from you i couldn't wait! The original hot rock burnt one was grey compared to the new one. I wish I'd have gotten the backrest too.

Next time i pop over with it you'll be able to touch the paint without it feeling like sandpaper!

Lovely work stu, I love this kind of stuff!
It's amazing what time and a bit of elbow grease can do.
Did u seal the paint before u waxed it?

Hi dill, not sure what that is! I've only ever used auto glym super resin polish and then colinite 915 wax.
always seems to work and last well even on 40 year old paint on my volkswagens.

I'd never used I t till recently. An old bloke I work with has been into detailing for years, he told me about it.
It's the stage between polish and wax, and basically seals the polished finish.
I think the one he gave me to try when I did my teg was called jet seal.
Collinite are good waxes, resin polish is quite good too but filler heavy so it hides a lot of light scratches for a while.
