Fitting a square peg into a round hole

Could of been a bigger square peg and smaller round hole so got of lightly with just bonnet clearance small trim should get you clearance worked on my h22 dx swap

Whilst I've bought the bits to do it, I'd hate to have to raise the bonnet.
I'm not up for slamming it and I want ground clearance, so whilst I have lowered the engine in the bay, I'm not up for dumping the engine either to get the bonnet to clear.
I dont want to hit my manifold when driivng around.

Tomorrow if it doesn't rain I'm going to trim the bonnet supports and fix a pressure leak in one of the hoses.
Might even try it for the length of the drive

Got home from work and tidied up a couple of things then took it out for a test drive and to stick some fuel into it.

First impressions, handling is fooked.
Needs tracking doing seriously as it isn't moving correctly.
I have a feeling it was damaged somehow (possibly just knocked) when it got stolen.
But of course that could just be thinking it has a problem and just feeling like something should be wrong....

Anyway, full alignment is definately needed.

I now have marks under the bonnet so know exactly where it needs trimming to clear

Stuck 20 quid in to her and then aimed for the bypass. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, holy sheet!!
It's certainly the fastest sedan I've been in
Soooo glad I kept the orignal cluster.
It tops out at 120mph and redlines at 7K, so it just looks wrong when the needles fly round it.

Few more things need work now, but the good news is that I know what to play with.
Changing the front springs out for the stiffer ones for example is on the list.
Got a shopping list of parts now and hopefully they will be done before JAE (if that happens!)

Got a plan brewing for a little more development in the power department as well.
Nothing like upping the power level before you get used to the limits

Promise more pics this weekend if weather holds I'll be working on it for most of the weekend.

I adjusted the tracking last night. Quick measure and eyeball, will set it up properly later as the suspension needs to come apart at least twice more before it's ready.

I had to unscrew about 5mm on the passenger side
So, I think there might be some damage here somewhere.
The TRE's will be replaced anyway cos they are what, £10 a side?
But now looks like I'll have to take a few measurements and check everything over to be sure the front end is straight

Picked up some PU sealant this morning to fill the engine mounts.

Might do all the bushes this weekend.
Tho means derusting my spare LCA's by hand rather than the electrolysis.
Will be sorting out a temporary intake, might upgrade the MC to a 1" for better pedal feel and probably fit a few strutbraces.

The sub box I built on Saturday with silicone still hasn't dried. It's still tacky. WTF? Dunno what's going wrong with that.

Can't believe it's been a year since I had the engine first in but then that explains why it seems to take me forever to do anything. (ie: it does!)

Since then I've sorted out the handling - alignment as suspected.
Fitted a custom cross member - broke handling again, rebuilt the cross member and fixed the handling (was built bent. ffs !!!)

• Sorted out an EG rad mount - bloody hard in a sedan & keeping rad in stock location.
• Carried on building the supercharger mounting bracket and fabbing up pipework; inlet/outlet flanges & hard pipes. Belt pulley tensioning system. - not fitted yet.
• Sorted out the B series to D series PAS conversion - easier than thought.
• Changed anything that moves on the front suspension & rack either energy or new (ball joints, TRE's). - just because.
• Fitted meisters. - very impressive
• Rebuilt the rear arms & disc brakes - but not fitted (1" MC to go on with them)
• Started fabbing up replacement exhaust to mount to the manfold.

Then mainly been working hard and driving it on weekends.
