The U.K. law is very vague...and leaves it upto the MOT test centre's discretion....that is why VOSA have an appeal procedure inplace if you were to disagree with part of the test. Currently, the most accurate discription of the law is described in my previous post. I think it is quite easy to understand....if your car sounds anything like Gizmo's then you will be in trouble....especially in the future. Even track days don't like noise...and TBH, IMO there really is no need for it.

i wasnt saying over standard, i meant a normal aftermarket exhaust that isnt silly loud
i went from stock vt exhaust with cat to my mongoose which is decatted and havent really noticed much power, but it is restrictive on the b20.
i was just implying that you dont need a spec 2 to get some power out the engine, and that on a mildly tuned engine the exhaust wont make too much difference if you get what i mean

Thats great. Not that this will cause a problem with me anyhow!Oldskool J-EDM wrote:Re-read my post...it is explanined there...this rule has stood since 1970.WELLZ wrote:My mate an MOT tester, and has just told me there is new legislation that an exhaust cannot be louder than an OEM system? Whether this only apply to cars over a certain age, i dont know?
....They have not finalised the 2010 legislation:...because they are trying to enforce a measurable noise limit by vehicle model and chassis No..... the problem is that some vehicles OEM exhausts design may change throughout the life/course of its manufacture...and hence dB output may differ....although the model and chassis No. of the vehicle will stay the same.
