White ED7 - Fresh paint!
Re: Gray ED7 - Engine bay shave
Finaly got to my camera
These are the pics from 2 days ago.. I have since then changed my mind a little bit.. Gonna use seam sealer that i will make look nicer than OEM on the joints of sheetmetals.
Other stuff in the engine bay i'm gonna smooth out like i was going to before, using filler with aluminium particles in it.
Last night i bought seam sealer and some other stuff, so i'm gonna go and work on the engine bay today after work
Most of this is gonna be completely sanded off and replaced with seam sealer
Strut towers are almost done, just needs a little bit more filler and some sanding to perfection
Hopefully i'll get some more time to work on it today so i can get it to look nicer.. I plan to start with wiring next week

Re: Gray ED7 - Engine bay shave
Words cannot describe how happy i am Went over and picked the bonnet up
It was very well packed and once i finally opened it i saw the exact same item that was described in the for sale thread
Dave is a very good guy for helping me out with this anyways, pictures..
Quick test fit yielded good results! Filler bar is just hanging by a bolt on each side..
Much better than the bonnet before Gotta make a spacer for this hole as its further out on VT front end..
Looks very good
Hopefully i can get my mate to help me out with aligning my front end after that collision fast fix
Then i can get back to work on the engine bay and wire tuck

Re: Gray ED7 - Engine bay shave
This weekend me and my cousin did a test fit of the VT front end.. turned out really well
Keep in mind this is all just a quick test-fit and nothing was aligned properly
In saturday we proceeded to do work on engine bay.. We degreased, masked and flattened it all down with a fine grit pad..
Then i mixed up the primer filler and this is what we got
Still some work to be done around there, but its almost finished
Gonna take my front subframes to the powdercoater in wednesday so hopefully i'll have that back till monday

Re: Gray ED7 - Engine bay primered
So this weekend i did great progress
Finally decided on the paint for the engine bay.. Java Black Pearl
After a clearcoat it looks like this
Sorry for the crappy pics but there was still a lot of dust flying around when i took these
Going to pick up the front subframes from the powdercoaters today.. Gotta change tie rod boots, tie rods, tie rod likage, grease it up freshly, paint the steering rack frame and change the stabilizer bushes
After that it's time to drop the engine inside

Re: Gray ED7 - Engine bay painted, subframe powdercoated
I've been a lazy c@^t, but i decided it's time to start updating this thing again
I did an engine swap on my daily EG. Put in the engine i had in my ED6 since it was a minter with 160k km on the clocks.. The old one had over 288k Drives very well now, a few minor issues like the distributor acting up again and a bushing to be replaced on the suspension, other than that, i love it
Did some work on the car, other than sorting out stuff in my garage this is what i did
The subframe is finally back on the car..
The car is very dusty, but you can still see pearls pop up
Fitted lowering springs with OEM shocks that have been refurbished, shortened and hardened
Started assembling the interior back up some..
After i got the missing tie rod end i put the wheels back on and removed jackstands after long 3 months
The next day i started with the wire tuck.. First up was the messed up headlight connector. In the left hand is the OEM one in the right hand is what i had left from the previous owner
I've cut the connector off a old ED6 loom and i placed it where it's supposed to go so i have an idea about the lenghts of the extension
Horn wiring done
A bunch of wires later, still need to extend the grounds, corner light and indicator
Then i tried to prepare the engine to be dropped in, but i found an issue with the clutch not matching up to the flywheel.. Tried to undo it, but failed multiple times.. So i just said feck it and decided to mill the head and put a new gasket on my engine instead of running a bought engine of unknown quality..
Turned out to be the right call as some head bolts had rust on them and the gasket was obviously leaking in some places..
Going to dropp off the head to be resurfaced tommorow. Also valve stems will be replaced and valve seats fixed if necessary.. After i get the head back i'm going to take the engine to my mate and we'll clean it out and reasseble it back up.
That's all for now.. Comments are welcome, as always!

Re: Gray ED7 - Wire tuck begins, engine reassembling
So after some time off by the sea and other forms of slacking i've picked up the head from the shop and got to work
Refinished head surface (0,3mm deep because of the water corrosion), polished valves and valve seats and new valve stem seals
Before i got to work on this side i cleaned the oil gunk a bit, makes it so much easier to work with when clean I started by removing the oil seal..
Followed by the crank cover..
Can you guess which side i've started cleaning?
Bring out the trusty manual and Motorblack
Motorblack in place
Reinstalled and ready to be torqued down
Fresh oil seal
Seal reinstalled..
Unbolted the oil pump..
And removed it gently
A lot of old burned up oil and old gasket
Cleaned up a little..
Both parts ready to be mated together..
Motorblack applied
Fresh oil seal
Oil pump reinstalled
Oil seal reinstalled back up and this side finished
Then i moved over to clean stuff out of the oil sump
Cleaned the mating surface
Reinstalled a new oil sump gasket
And torqued down, but then i fucked up and snapped a bolt on the transmission side, so gotta remove it today and replace it with a new one
Then i turned the engine back up around and cleaned the block mating surface
Then i put in dowel pins and placed on the head gasket
Torqued the head down after a year and a half of this engine being a bare block and a stripped head
I put the engine down on the ground and covered it so no dust and debris will enter it, decided it was time to go home at 1am
There's more stuff going to happen this week, gotta reassemble the whole engine and put it inside my car this week hopefully
