Civic vs. Fiesta zetec S
Hey peoples, my mate's zetec S is dying! And i wanna convince him to get a civic! He has spent a bit of dollar on getting it how he likes it. e.g. Miltek Exhaust, coilovers, poly bushes, has cams to go in, and a chip to map it. Has anyone on here owned a zetec S, and can say they love there civic more? If so..... please comment, cos my mate will read up. I have told him my civic is fun, but that ain't enough. So honest opinions please.

that sums it up reallysimpo wrote:just tell him honda treat it well last for ever FORD fix or repair daily- found on roadside dead
im not sure how much they are worth. if he can make decent money back off the fiesta, then hell yeh. im sure its worth at least £2k. and u can get a tidy 16v for £1k, or a VT for just under £2k
if he doesnt like civics, no point trying to sway him
lots of options tho with civics
VT
eg/ek VTI
CRX

I have driven the 1.6litre Zetec S quite a bit....although never owned. The Civic GL is quicker in a straightline, very similar on the twisties (IMO more fun too) and I would defo say the Civic is more reliable as every person I have met that owns a Fiesta has had to pay for at least one BIG repair bill relating to dodgy thermostats going wrong and other electrical faults. That said, Ford parts are cheaper and easier to aquire. The Fiesta is quiter and more refined to drive...and even has airbags...whatever they are
. The 2.0litre Zetec S...and all newer Fords are supposed to have resolved previous reliability issues that Ford were/are known for. The new chassis' are very good too. It should be noted though that Honda (as do Nissan and Toyota) still over-engineer all engine components by apprx 50%
.
As far as convincing your mate.....4G's are getting old and require care...and as such, I don't think they will suit most people for a 'daily-drive' these days. He would probably suit an EK....newer, more solid and bigger than a Fezzy...with airbags
...and lots of toys for them.
I would simplify this by asking if your mate wants to be know as a scally/chav or not! Sorry to stereotype Ford-lovers, but , If he wants no association with the formentioned....he must get a Honda!

new fords are now more reliable thanks to mazda but older models are rubbish
and im sure anyone of us would have a rs1800 or rs500 over a civic as they are worth alot and so could sell it on and make cash to spend on your civic but if you didnt mean it like tha then im sure if we all had the money to buy either a genuine mint rs500 or rs1800 that there would be alot of other cars in the same price brackets that we would all have before either of them

The older models are rubbish? My four Mk1 and 2 Fiestas say otherwise - this was back in the early 90's. I had a Mondeo in the early '00s that was faultless too.daz-civic wrote:new fords are now more reliable thanks to mazda but older models are rubbish

Congratulations BTW, you completely missed the point of my post. Which was that an RS500 or RS1800 is a much better car than a Civic/Crx.
To put that into context, I like Hondas a lot, I have owned 10 and have 2 at the moment. But if they were worth the same amount of money as a Civic/Crx I would be driving the Cossie or Escort.
Oldskool J-EDM - I run a 4g as a daily driver, and have run an EF of some kind as a daily driver since 03.
SOOO far from the truth,Oldskool J-EDM wrote: It should be noted though that Honda (as do Nissan and Toyota) still over-engineer all engine components by apprx 50%.
!
It used to be the rule of Honda that the parts were slightly over engineered, but not by that much, now adays there just "as good" as the competition.
RE:Fords.
Ive had my fair share of fords and more Honda's than most (50+)
The most reliable car ive had bar NONE was my Mk 1 Mondeo. never had 1 problem with it.
On another note probably the worst car ive had in a long time is my current 1.4 civic (MB2) its sloppy, bad electrical issues, and just plain annoying.
I would LOVE a MK1/2 escort. Cossies dont appeal to me (Rs500) may be.
But your mate should be looking towards an EK civic tbh if thats the route.

now if you had this much cash

would you buy that or would there be countless other cars in the same price bracket that you would much rather have
