Big Brakes
I finally got my Big brakes fitted on Monday. They are really good, very happy with them, a big improvement over the old set up. I hopefully wont scare myself as much now.
I can now stop from any speed as often as needed and I don't get any fade, warping, overheating or any other problems, just loads of braking power the whole way. I will have to watch though as its now really easy to lock up the wheels, I just hope that if I have to emergency brake and they lock up that I can react quickly enouth to avoid an accident.
The set up is Now:
ITR Calipers and Carriers
Castrol DOT.4 Brake Fluid
Goodridge SS Brakelines
Ferodo DS Pads
EBC Discs
As usual it started raining while I was working on the car, it doesn't really bother me as I'm used to it but it makes it a lot harder as you have to try and keep things dry.
I will apologize now for the photos as they all seem to have bad contrast and so on, I always have this problem, I blame the camera.
The Brakelines
Looking really big behind the Fat Fives
You can see here just how tight a fit it is, there is no more than 1mm of clearance beetween the Caliper and the Wheel weights. It is also very close to the wheel in a number of places.
I cleaned the rear arches while the car was jacked up.
The fat fives are due for a refurb after the winter. I am really short on money at the moment but hopefully I can save up a bit if I get enouth overtime over the Month (almost) that I am off Uni for Christmas, although I also will have a lot of Revision to do.

Congratulations..............
Its a long time overdue.
Glad you like them, now get used to sending annoying passengers through the windscreen lol (joke).
I see you have used the same discs that I went for, they are good and you will struggle to see any brake fade on this setup now.
Still be careful though, the weather is nasty for even the best of brakes.

p.s Please please paint the H on the centre caps, makes such a big difference.

I'm not sure about the black letters, I like the kind of smoothe clean look, a big black H would stand out too much imo.
I don't think white would be better than silver and when they get refurbed I am going to go for a very slighty darker silver with mayby a very very slight metalic effect.
However I wouldn't mind seeing a photoshop of it with white wheels. The only wheels I had condsidered in White were TE37's which I still may get some time but have more important things to get at the moment.

Whats the drop on yours bro?
Springs or coilovers?
It actually sits slightly lower than in that photo, it had been jacked for a while and the springs hadn't settled completely. I can't remember what the drop was but its only springs atm as there are quite a few bumpy roads around me. It handles good anyway judging by the speed I can put it round corners.

Tahir - Mine should be that colour but slightly more shiny and metalic.
I think the 50 profile gives a good balance beetween comfort and performance.
Yeah, I love mine too, I have 195/50/15 tyre size and on the Front I have Firestone Firehawk SZ80's. I think these are excellent tyres in this size, good grip on accleration and really good in the corners and when you do push them to their limit in the wet the slip is very gradual so it won't catch you out. It makes me wonder why I am changing to Eagle F1's but I just want to see if they are any better, if not then its back to the Firehawks.widowmaker wrote:I was going to sell my fat 5s but i am falling in love with them
What tyre size have you ?, and what does it behave (tyre wise)

No problem No, it doesn't really tramline at all, the only thing I get through the wheel is the LSD ocassionaly pulling a bit, but thats not down to the tires.widowmaker wrote:cool, cheers for the info, does it tramline at all ??
Thanks very much, It helps that I'm very fussy and won't give up untill I get everything the way I want it. The only problem is it distracts me from my Uni work.I must say its very inspirational your car and what can be done with your sleeves rolled up
