I think that's the main issue Lucas. Filthy oil, poor maintenance, etc. On the ones I have seen fail, after removing the sump the gauze on the filter pick up was always pretty clogged with crap.

A bit of oil starvation to the pump seems to cause the pump to fail almost instantly then see you later bottom end!

The first engine in this car was not the original and when I bought it off Stew, he admitted that he had no idea of the history of the engine and it had been sat for a while. That went bang (bottom end) and then I supplied Luke with this engine which I got off Chapman. We knew it had done 150k plus miles but again it had been sat for a while and we had no idea of the history. Same issue again, bottom end failure.

Checked the pickup etc before fitting it as recommended by Ben, admittedly I drive the absolute S*!t out of it which is more than likely to blame but i always used good quality oil and filters and replaced every 2000 miles. These things happen so never mind if it happens again though ill have a rethink

I have been giving mine absolute death for the last three years, pretty much day in day out and it has never skipped a beat. I am not saying mine is a super engine or anything but to ruin the bottom end in that spectacular fashion is quiet an achievement

Yeah the first one was understandable as it was knocking it knackers off under load and I was well aware of it, but this one just went without warning at 110mph

Re: Luke's Silver ED7 and White ED7!

Post by LukeReg9 »

Been struggling to decide what to do with the silver one with the price of gaskets etc being almost the same price as b16 conversion I decided to buy gavs white ed7 that I saw for sale on here for parts and to try and make a good one out of the pair of them

Image

The engine and interior are far better than my silver one but the sills and arches are much worse
So whilst I'm stripping the interior out to start welding on it I'm fitting it all into the silver one

Pics so far

There's 2 4th Gen hatches, and a m2 escort on your drive. This is a good house.
