This works quite well on a lot of plastics, but not all. Just be carefull not to warp the plastic or burn it which will cause small bubbles on the surface.

Don't use this method.

It is great as a temporary fix, but repeated application will ruin your trim.

What you are doing with the heatgun is bringing the oil content of the plastic to the surface. The 'greying' of plastic trim is where oil has evaporated off. So by bringing oil to the surface, this will eventually also evaporate off, and repeated application of the heat gun will remove so much oil that your trim will become brittle and snap or shatter.

A much better alternative is to 'feed' oil back into the plastic. The two most well documented methods of doing this is by either rubbing boiled linseed oil onto the trim, or using peanut butter to rub in then wipe off. The peanut oil is very good at feeding plastics. The only downside is that sometimes dogs like to lick your trim!

A quick blast of silicone spray on a rag makes em shine better than new for a day, dogs r more likely to cock a leg up on that

Why not try this stuff, Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer, a bit pricey but by all accounts looks like it does the job very well indeed.

I dont think dogs would be so keen on this stuff :top:
