Will have to find something he can insure, even if it's just for the first year.

Just the Starlet SR is a cool first car imo.

Sky, can you help?

If you want cheap avoid anything jap as a first car as it aint gonna happen unless you have some serious wedge.

As Kev said ford KA are mega cheap, ford fiesta's, vauxhall corsa's and polo's are generally a little more but still affordable.

I just didnt drive for my first year, Just too expensive and also i refused to pay upwards of 5k to drive a sodding polo or something

Iirc the cheapest thing i ever found was an Austin mini 1.0 city E Just the price of the car that was the problem :| You cant really win

its S*!t welcome to being young, insurance groups don't always mean cheap insurance, there's loop holes like old mercs and estate vehicles are cheaper just strange crap, its more me to insure a robin reliant than it is something like a 190E

Sounds about right, although i think even i got cheaper qoutes than that  Was about £3000 for me. If you know someone in a posh area try using their postcode to see if that makes a difference. It didnt here Hull because well....there arent any posh area's  But if i put it in hessle it was about £400 cheaper :|

 Would definitely be cheaper that way not recomended mind you  Have you tried putting him as a named driver ? Some companies still allow it some won't. Try old Volvo's i know it aint exactly cool and his mates will think wtf you got your mums car for but if it gets you on the road who cares, besides he'll have a turbo......LOW boost but turbo is turbo  :drivegear:

You putting yourself down on the policy as a named driver.

I have my mum and dad on my policy. Dropped it considerably.

Tbh I think they just spew out these ridiculous costs so that young drivers will resort to the 'black box'
Seems the only way to get a reasonable quote these days.
