Rubber rear arch trims....

Right... The rubber trims that are on the rear arch lip..... why the hell do people leave these on? Mine still had them on when I bought it, I ripped them off on the forecourt! They are a massive factor in ye olde hanging arches as they just sit there, collecting water!
Were the guys at Honda high when they thought these would be a good idea?!

So basically I'm just generally whinging about them! Pretty pointless post, but, they annoy me, and I hope I'm not the only person who is offended by their presence

It's just a cosmetic thing, to make the arches look neater. Looks odd without them IMO, but yes, they're not the best of ideas.

My old man used to work for an Austin garage, the Austin maestros didn't come with these fitted, but mg maestros did, he said the austins used to rust far far quicker than the mg, due to Stonechips.


As long as the metalwork is properly sealed, then it doesn't matter as much as you think that water is caught in the trims.
Soon as you take these off you get Stonechips on the arch, leaving bare metal.

yeah good point.
its also hard to get paint to 'stick' to the sharp edge of the arch lip. I've coated mine with underseal on the outside as well as inside.

Fair enough, sadly ef arches/sill ends don't rot out because of stonechips, the lips though, maybe..
As for coating the inside and outside on the arch lip with underseal, that's definitely the best thing! When I made my rear arches / ends of sills, I also shortened the lip at the very bottom of the arch where it meets the sill, as that is just a massive trap for crap/water. I would have got rid of it altogether, but then the panel loses strength..
Rust sucks!

When i got the sill ends done on my old one i had them removed altogether to get rid the water/dirt trap
