honda-hardy's GL project thread.
some have suggested that i move from the newby thread to a project thread, so here goes. same photos but more organized and as the car stands today.
the day before i bought it.
trumpets added
wheels progression
hubcaps
then black crx alloys
and now how i roll
sound system with carpeted shelf and box.
red rocker cover.
still to do.
lower suspension. springs bought
iridium plugs bought
plug leads
strut braces front and rear
fit new seats (possible) crx ones from rallyeluke still to determine how hard it is to change the rails
tidy interior (including rear cards as they are tired and one is torn)
wind deflectors
stainless exhaust system inc manifold and down pipe.
rear lower bushes have some play
track rod ends are not as rigid as i like
anti-roll bar bushes all round
drop links slight play
osf cv joint slight noise on full lock.
replace all the earth wires to the engine
sort out rust on passenger door
paint the panels below the trim line

Re: honda-hardy's GL project thread.
my pi springs arrived today, thanks for the next day postage lukethelaw.
used and tired
shot blasted
red oxide primered
top coat
but what a flippin knightmare though. fitted both drivers side front and rear in just over an hour.
still needs time to settle though
THEN SNAP.......
started to undo the nsr lower control arm bolt and it sheared off.
so, time to strip the the complete rear arm out but...
i couldnt undo the blead nipple, as i thought that i would check before removing the brake line from the rear arm.
so i had to strip the rear arm from the car but leave it upside down to relieve the tension on the flexi pipe.
shock out, time to cut the remaining part of the bolt out as the head snapped leaving the shaft siezed in the lca.
so after cutting the bolt and removing the arm i had to smash the captive nut as no amount of trying i couldnt get the remaining piece of the bolt out of the thread
rallyeluke he came over with new lower arms as the bolt was siezed in the bush.
so many thanks again to you bud.
pics in the daylight of the settled height to follow.
first impressions are that the springs have lowered the car but they dont feel any stiffer.

Re: honda-hardy's GL project thread.
i love my work, had a new gear knob machined today. still got to tap a thread into it though.
Re: honda-hardy's GL project thread.
Car looks good. Doing the same things as me. Ive just got some springs but cant shot blast them. Mine will just get a scrub and spray. Shame about the bolt snap, bloody 4G's.

lca bolts snapping is just a Honda rule lol i have not had one come out of a standard lca without snapping yet. I think its where the bolt has a splin and it holds water
dual carb v-tec yooooooooo! The car's not rusty, its the hair!
soon to be a b series eg coupe. (not permanently though)

gear knob was machined out of aluminium bar by a work collegue, it actually has a domed top but hard to photo.

Re: honda-hardy's GL project thread.
i found the bolts nearest the chassis on the lower control arm were easier to undo than the bolts nearest the brakes, so try these when fitting the shox on the back.vibe85 wrote:Car looks good. also spray loads of lube on all the bolts before you start and get a cuppa whilst allowing it to seep in to the threads. may even pay you to get hold of a second hand good set plus some spare bolts too.
break a leg mate.

Gear knob does look good but is it as chunky as it looks ?

You going to leave it the way it is or you going to spray it a colour ?
