Recently ive noticed im putting a stupid amount of fuel a week into my dx. its returning no better than 50 mile to a 10er. and im not driving like and idiot. any ideas what could be causing this ?

So for £20 you're getting 100miles, sounds ok to me.

When was the last time you gave it a real good service, oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs, fuel filter?

Sounds good to me too. My GL does the same with a few minor mods and thats when it's driven carefully. Heavy foot and I can watch the lever drop each second

50miles from a tenner (costing fuel at 135p a litre) would mean you're seeing a return of approx. 31mpg.

Which isn't too bad I'd say, though the main factor is the type of journey you are doing when calculating the cost of running or mpg.

Short distance/town driving will see lower mpg than longer/main carriageway drives.

Ahh well if its nothing too far from usuall then im not worried. the majority of my travelling is motorway/cariage way . last gd service i give it was about 8k ago so i guess it could do with a service

and i think 31 mpg is shite ! is your car running at a normal temp? if not ...

change the thermostat.... take your plugs out inspect the colour of them .... if there black as your hat something wrong ( running rich ) check that your chokes not on all the time

31mpg isn't acceptable unless your absolutely caning it everywhere.
My GL has never ever got that bad!

Yea 31 bit low my gl averages out at bout 40 mpg, get bout between 350-370 miles outa a brimmed tank and that's on a Eco mania cruz lol

Ah just sayin that mast last gl was the same till I port polish it and cranked the comp up and if must went down to bout 30 on Eco then way lower on a rip, defo check got overfueling

What returns are you seeing from £10 fuel then Jake and Louckie?

The carbed engines aren't massively economical. Surprisingly though, a few performance tweaks do actually offer an improvement.

As others have said though, your first port of call should be a good service.

A 'tenner of fuel' is a bad way to work it out.
Over a full tank I can top 400miles easily.
High 40 mpg on motorway.
Never ever dropped under 40mpg
