"thud" sound going over bumps

Post by 166bhp »

I'm getting a "thud" sound when going over bumps, a few months ago i found out 1 of the nuts going to the gearbox was missing and the whole block was sort of jumping back when lifting the clutch(when moving off) but even though i had that sorted and every nut and bolt firm and solid there is still a thud sound, also if a brake suddenly when driving slowly i hear another thud when taking my foot OFF the pedal! its really confusing! anybody got any ideas what it could be!?!

Could be the rear mount.

Put the car in gear with ignition off, stand at the front of the car and rock it backwards/forwards, see if it makes the thud, or if there is excessive play.

yep, iv'e just tried this, but the movement in the mount is very little, the thud sound is actually coming from where the radius rod goes to the lower arm, and its on both sides, im guessing it must be the bushes there??

Probably the bushes but try tightening them up first may just be loose, 17 or 19mm nut
