Loose steering @ speed

Post by PowellyEG »

Taken from CRX-UK

Giz, Chapman @ JAE reps meet this was what I was on about. I have a bit of play at speed and it gets a little hairy, I have similar issues lads and wondered if any ones had the same problem with there EF?

Also if this helps any one :-)

Had a another CRX same year and model and that thing on a private track of course would do 130mph stiff as a board. Thing is it feels like out of balance wheels but is definatly not (balanced several times etc) and is hard to describe, vibrating steering, wandering feel on a bypass/motorway.

Looked on here and did the usual list of things, TRE, upper wishbones, lower ball joints, even new discs to ensure true running and balance, new tyres and so on. Guess about 1K of stuff as all OEM.

Then searched one night and found this

Phoned Honda to find out how much the spanner was and it is £90!
Mangaed to borrow a 40mm combination spanner and the open end can get on the lock nut ok. Followed the instruction in the manual and initially was a bit tight, felt like it hesitated to correct. Backed it out a smidge more and crikey it is a different car!!

Really has made a huge difference, unbelievable as nearly everything else is new, really tight @ track speeds :)

This is on a uk car with 40k miles on it, so some of you high milers may be in need of a tweak, check it out if you have similiar symptoms, really has made a massive difference to the car and my confidence in it too!

Its just to tighten it up0 again, their saying it loosens off over time, but be careful not to over tighten it or you'll also feel it!
If its not broken fook about with it till it is or ya make it better!

Ive got this problem after changing my rear LCA and my rear Trailing arm bushes. Will I just need four wheel alignment done?

i would say your wheel alignment is off.

did you mark up the rear control arm before removing the rear trailing arm?

either way after any suspension work alignment will need to be checked
