Civic vt ABS, is it worth having? Better with or without?

Post by gazelle »

I'm looking into importing or buying a ready imported VT SIR/SIR II.
Its mainly going to be a road and track car and I've noticed that a few of the cars I've looked at have ABS.

My previous experiance of ABS on crx's/vts wasnt good.
My girlfriend had a 1991 D series crx with ABS and I thought it was cack.

Have I just had a bad experiance or is it rubbish?

Do alot of the import VT's have ABS?

Also I'm after a vt with factory LSD is it a common option and is any good?

Any info is grately appreciated... :top:

Wish I could be of help, I've never driven an older Honda with ABS, however on my new MKV GLI, I fuggin love ABS! However on my new car it also works in conjunction with ESC which keeps the car very stable. If you are tracking the car, you should not need ABS, ABS would be for a daily driver, not so much a track car.

Thats what I was thinking...Ive owned various CRX's and EF9's, none with ABS and I've really liked the way they drove, stopped etc

I'm asking the question because I'm after an import EF9....I've seen a few EF9 SIR's for sale but both have had ABS which I'm not keen on and I wondered if they were worth bothering with...I've now looked into it a bit further and realised that Ive got more choices than I first thought....I'm gonna get myself an EF9 SIR II with no ABS and no sunroof!! I dont really want power steering either but it looks like they all come with it...oh well

This is exactly what I have.

I never knew that ABS was available on the JDM EF9.

I personally hate ABS. In my opinion, takes away from the driving experience

I wouldnt have thought that a JDM EF9 would either but they do...there is one on here for sale at the mo...infact thats what put me off tbh

I'm after a JDM EF9 with preferably no powersteering and a oem LSD...is there any way of identifying if a car is fitted with one?
Any numbers on the box or differences in the casing?

I've found a nice one with no power steering and an "appaent factory LSD" so I'd like to know what I'm looking at...

True, but unless you can locate some non ABS oem brake lines youll be stuck with some unsightly copper brake lines!!!

Correct me if im wrong but im sure NO VT every came with ABS. Ive never seen a EF9 with it either (But i have a feeling some might have them)

Only some CRX SiR's and some UK CRX VT's had ABS.

To remove it you will need to replace the brake lines on the bulkhead. However, to disfunction it, just remove the ABS fuse.
