Civic race / track car - Updates on page 5 - New Paint Job
Hi
Here's my new track car - a JDM VTEC (is that an Si?). This forum looks like the place to be to help me keep it running
I picked this up late last year after I sold my 944 turbo, which was a road / track car. This one's very definitely a track car, but it is road legal as it raced in the lma road saloons championship. The car has some interesting history - it won the road saloons in '95 and '02, and was originally imported from Japan by Honda to run in the Willhire 24hrs. It was subsequently sold to a senior Honda UK man who raced it for 5 years & then sold to the previous owner.
it's running a stroked 1.6 b16 - making it a 1.8. Engine built by Mardi Gras. I'm told it produces 175 bhp @ 7500 rpm. The previous owner ran it at a conservative redline in the interests of longevity. I might run it a bit higher
It still has a full interior and all glass, so there is some potential for weight reduction. I plan to take it to the 'ring later in the year so it still needs to be reasonably comfortable. On first impressions it doesn't seem any worse than a DC2 I had for a while so should be fine for a long trip.
Suspension is Leda, the cage is bolt in but also bolts to the A&B pillars & roof rails. The car came with 6 sets of wheels - the sparco 15's in the pic, 2 x 14" compomotives with wets & slicks, 2 x honda 14" alloys with Yoko 539's and 1 x steels with 539's. I also got a load of Honda spares & Mintex pads, - not really sorted through them all yet
You can see it has plenty of battle scars - I might be after some cheap s/h wings and doors if I decide to tidy her up. I can see that most panels are quite cheap. The exhaust obviously isn't standard - I wonder if they just left off the back box?
There seem to be a few differences between JDM and UK cars - one of the headlights is UK, the other JDM. You can see that one sits much further back. Apparently the wheel bearings are different as well.
There's also a missing vac line on the intake - any clues where this should connect to?
First outing (after a cambelt change next week) should be at Cadwell on the 23rd Jan.

Certainly has a few battle scars, on a track car. Seems to have parts from a load of different versions of the 4G.
Certainly loads of room for improving its track performance there. Plenty of weight that can come out if its going to be used mostly as a track car.
That missing vac line on the intake used to go to the Dashpot, which you don't have. Its not needed so don't worry. It won't affect the idle or anything because its before the Thottle body.

Thats not what it is, from the looks of it you have one light From a VTEC 4G and one from a non-VTEC 4g, the non vtecs have differnt shorter headlights, thats why it doesn't fit properly. One of the headlights is UK, the other JDM. You can see that one sits much further back

What is the engine code - pretty sure you can't stroke a B16A (the original engine in your car) so it must be a B16B?
I would hope that 175bhp is at the wheels, I could get that at the fly out of a 1600! The redline sounds stupidly low, the limiter isn't until 8250 or so on standard cars.
Looks like fun though

Nope, you can stroke a B16A, theres one or two companies that do the stroker kit. Must have a weird looking crank though.NickD wrote:What is the engine code - pretty sure you can't stroke a B16A (the original engine in your car) so it must be a B16B?
He didn't tell us the redline But 175 is definitly low if thats the flywheel figure, I'd be surprised if it is though, from what I hear Mardi Gras are rather good.I would hope that 175bhp is at the wheels, I could get that at the fly out of a 1600! that have been capped off !!!!
one on each side , depending on direction of the track , and pits
correct!
now just using the standard fuel tank.
I've just spoken to a bloke at Mardi Gras - he's suggested it should be OK to run to the standard b16 rev limit (is that 8250?) He didn't want to hazard a guess at power - as we know, rolling roads can give a wide variation in power.
Is there much tuning you can do with the standard EF9 ECU? I know you can use a later loom & go Hondata. My plan for now is to just run as is - it can't be too shabby if it's a championship winning car after all.
If that is a stroked B16, it is well under powered, my stage 1 B16 package put out 180bhp with ease, and 200bhp isnt that hard to reach.
Stock valve train will take 8400rpm with relative safety.
As for tuning, I can tune your stock ecu for you, we offer both road and dyno tuning facilities Starting from a mere £150. we would supply a socketed version of your ecu and take yours in PX.
We can add features to your ecu, and adjust fuel/igntion to give the best possible power.
