I've decided to show the reason because of which there was no progress on my ED7.
Currently in my garage resides my sisters BA4 Prelude which needs a transplant.
The old B20A3 engine was burning excessive ammounts of oil and when she bought this car, there was a B20A9 engine sold with it.
Some pictures of the car..
So a month ago i started doing some work on it.. First i've decided to tear down the old engine because the condition of it was unknown.
The previous owner of the Prelude only bought another car for parts and that's where he got this engine from only drove some 200 kilometers with it, so knowing the condition of the engine was impossible.
Then i started unhooking the engine bits.. So much vacuums on this damn carbie B20A3!
The "new" block with a box 'o bits on top of it..
That was the end of the day, a last sad look towards my ED7 and i left..
Then i got hakosuka to help me bring the old engine out..
One of the reasons this thing was using so much oil
Then i started gutting the interior and getting out the old engine loom.
Had to gut the entire interior because the loom goes in the weirdest of places.. Now all i gotta do is cut the old carbie loom off just behind the passenger side seat and splice in the new PGM-FI one. The rear part is the same, so no issues there. If i were to change it whole i'd spend another day or two just on that, which i find a huge waste of time.
Last weekend i went to a friend to wash the block internals, only to find this inside the sump
A trail of gold going all along the inside of the block..
Well... feck!
The engine was dropped off at a shop that will rebuild the bottom end..
Before knowing that though we cleaned the inside of a cylinder head because we only wanted to surface it and fix the valve seats then slap it back on the block..
Next on the list is:
- splicing in a new PGM-FI loom
- make a fuel supply line
- change the engine tank for a PGM-FI one
- drop the head off to be refreshed
- assemble the engine and pray to god that it works
BA4 Prelude - engine swap
Re: BA4 Prelude - engine swap
Not sure this is generating interest here, but i'll keep posting if anyone is interested
Placed back inside the engine loom.. This time the 2.0i version loom.
Not sure why, but a part of this loom has a different mounting position on one part of it. Still have to fix the ripped out radio loom.
Started splicing in the new loom to the old one because i couldn't be arsed to rip out the whole rear interior just to swap it.
Job done!
Also.. I found this inside the car The remains of mice that used to live in the car when it was parked for 6 years
Started cleaning wheels to have them refurbished.
Split in pieces..
Mayhem after all the old silicone was removed. Whoever assembled these did a huge overkill on the silicone part
Wheels were then sandblasted and paint stripper used to remove the clearcoat on lips. All assembled back up and off to be straightened and polished!
We're going to pick up the block today. Head was skimmed, stem seals replaced and had valve seats fixed so that part is ready. All we need now is a fuel line, belts, water pump, filters and oil. All of that should be here by friday, so hopefully the engine will be placed inside the engine bay this weekend.

Re: BA4 Prelude - engine swap
They are fun to drive, yes. But a huge pain in the A$$ to wrench. So many things overcomplicated unlike on our 4gen Civics..
I don't know what they were thinking with half the stuff they did on these Preludes
Hoping i get the water pump and timing belt today so i can prep the engine for swapping!

Re: BA4 Prelude - engine swap
This has been completed but i'll post pictures for those that want to see the progress
Rebuilt bottom end picked up..
Resurfaced head also picked up..
Block and head mated together after a long time
I've made a quick oil seal install tool at work and it turned out great!
The current metal water pipe was corroded beyond recognition..
..so it was soda blasted
Then i finally got the timing belt kit so i could assemble the engine together again!
Mated the transmission and everything else back on and that was it for the day
It was 11pm by the time we were done so we've put the engine inside the garage and called it a day.
Next day there were some finishing touches done to it and then the engine went inside without an issue
Rembember the old wheels?
Polished lips, painted centers and new bolts..
Wheels reassembled
New fuel pipes on the gas tank
Back up
Gauges and dash back in..
Fully rebuilt interior
Started to rebuild the front end
Had a lunch break on the new engine
Aaaaaand done!
First time she "saw" the world this year
And a bonus video of the first start
