No but wasn't trying too as it was already cracked :( I have gotten a screen out of a 4g without cracking but without proper tools it does take a LONG time time. Took me 3.30 hours to get the screen out of my old 4g

Haha yeah just abit  Should be interesting its just trying to decide on an engine for definate at the minute

Timescale wise we ont really have one, as im just doing when i have some spare time at the garage really so will be steady progress. Havent even started welding it yet all ive done since last update is put some Zinc weld through primer on it to stop it rusting over again.

Also need to order some sills and try to locate a N/s rear arch panel....not easy it would seem :(

If you find a rear arch panel give me a shout of who supplying them! hadrian panels went bust so they have now gone obsolete which sucks hopefully someone will have the tooling out there and made some! otherwise we will see alot of these 3'gs in scrap yard :(

Some more progress !!

14/06/12

So the replacement 0/S/R arch that someone had fitted in the past looked ok, but wanted to be sure they had done the job properly so got the grinder out and cut off teh welds.

Image

So that'd be a no then  No idea what the blue panel metal is from but have found a fair bit of it in various places on the car :|

So all that will be getting chopped out and replaced with new sheet.

Then got started on the N/S sill

Replacement sill held over old

Image

then drew on the lines of where the new sill goes too.

Image

Image

Drilled out spot welds, which is unbelieveably boring and time consuming

Image

The old sill cut off :D

Image

What that then uncovered

Image

Doesnt look too bad but, the whole piece holding all the petrol filler neck etc hs corroded away aswell so safe to say abit of fab work needed there !

Image

Rear of the O/S sill chopped out

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Spot welds drilled out on O/S sill

Image

Levered sill out

Image

Removed

Image

Inner sill rotten aswell so that got chopped out asap

Image

Image

Bored of grinding so did a little welding.

Rear O/S/R arch bit after the arch under the rear quarter had just rotted away so chopped out plates made and welded up.

Image

Image

Then made up a little plate for the chassis rail id exposed by chopping out the inner sill

Image

Corner of the O/S/R floor plae made shaped and welded in

Image

O/S/R floor first plate welded in

Image

Got shape pretty close to original, this is looking from outside under the inner arch

Image

Image

welding pretty good for ancient jap tin 8)

Image

There is more progress but im slowly loosing the will to live waiting for pics to upload

Thanks bud

Yeah its a tad crusty  Aint to bad though really when you break it down into sections, just very time consuming.

Bit more

Rear inner sill/lip plate welded in and shaped

Image

Image

Image

Then zinc primed

Image

2nd inner sill section that sits over the plate rust cut off and new sheet added

Image

Then welded in place

Thanks man, yeah its abit of a long slog but if your gonna do something may aswell do it right :)

Front inner sill plate welded in

Image

Bit later after another patch at the front and some acid etch primer.

Image

Rear O/S under quarter thingy me bob, nearly done. pretty happy with the shape of it just need a little more work before it done. Sprayed with Acid etch primer.

Image

Image

Rest of the O/S inner sill work so far

Image

Image

O/S rear floor patch all welded up just needs the welds grinding down now, as a little messy where it blew through

Image

HAve ground back the inner sill welds a little but not bothering with that too much as when the sill is on you wont be able to see it anyway, so just some general tidying up really.

Thats all for now but will update as get more done :)

Hmmm wide arches and big A$$ wheels maybe not finding OEM arch replacements wouldnt be so bad

Image

Inner arche welded in, obvisously need cutting and shaping but have hedl off on doing this until i know where we stand on rear arches.

Image

Inner rear all done, might grind the welds down abit but not sure as they cant be seen when sill is on so may just seam sealer them.

Image

Front O/S inner sill

Image

Panel needed making as it had rotten away dude to the drain tube. So i got creative

Image

Little bracket i there to hold the drain tube in place and obvisously the slit is there so it can drain easily

Image

Image

Then while paint dried it was onto the floor patch...i say patch lossly it more like i have a patch of floor left and need to make the rest

Image

Now i already had a huge hole to cover to i decided tomake it even bigger and even more of a PITA to fix. As one of the mounting/captive nuts for the subframe was really badly corroded now i wasnt going to go this far and leave some like that so out came the grinderand i cut it out then i realised how much a PAIN it was going to be to get the shape right

Image

NOt many pics as far too much hammering and mild swaeering going on trying to get the plate to be the right shape  It doesnt look too bad in the pic but the whole lot sort of curve in 3 different directions.

Image

Front O/S front inner sill cup/drain tube thingmebob welded in

Image

Extra piece of floor plate which ill be mounting some heavy gauge plate to for the subframe captive nut to be on.

Image

Then some more inner front wheel arch plating. tacked in

Image

Bit more shaped

Image

All welded just needs abit more shapingto be right

Image

Image

Theres a plate which needs to go in on the inside aswell so you wont be able to see the overlapping plate inside when its done. Theres a suprising amount of layers to a car when you start chopping it up

Thats all so far, ill try and get some more done tomorrow if i have time :)

You have done incredibly well Walshy!

I knew you were the right person to sell to.

It's crazy... up until a year before I sold it to you my mate was still using this as his daily!

Will have to point him towards this thread as he won't believe it!

Just about to PM you OT Ethan. Keep up the good work! :top:
