Gizmo's GL - D14Z6 Mini-Me

Post by Gizmo »

Finally decided what to do with this ebay bargain, Vtec y0! I plan on doing exactly what Indio has done, UK Style, i plan to start this around Early Febuary 08', building it through to May, Doing the engine, bodywork etc, then when i turn 18, and marks a year of no claims and Points (Fingers Crossed!) Then the DX will come off the road, Swap the wheels and braces onto the GL, Rear lights etc. have the bodywork fixed on the DX, few engine mods (D15b head etc..) Then sell and rid of the DX

Will Begin my sourcing a D16Z6 Block, Few on ebay around the £100-£150 mark, Just the for the main swap, anyways so thats the main thing i need, Id also like ro begin sourcing a lightweight flywheel, 4-1 headers, GXR 600 Carbs, Stage 2 Cam. Im aiming for around 120bhp~ mark, will this be achievable?

Bodywork wise, i plan to strip it down to the shell, fix the rust, weld the sills, then a full Respray, inside and out, Undicided what colour, was thinking B-47M Superior Blue  will then strip the paint off the bumpers, back to the black plastic in all its glory, not into this colour coded bumper business. Interior wise will be stripped out to the shell, then carpeted, so its lightweight, but doesnt look "messy" than having metal showing, Followed by 2 Buckets in the front, and im gunna hopefully fabricate a half cage (Full cage Pending on how well it goes).

im hoping to remove the power steering, replaced by a manual rack, whilst keeping the heaters, its a daily driver dont forget, keeping the stereo intact also.

Anyways, Watch this space!

The "Dreams" about the stripped interior etc may be a dream, but the Z6 Head swap isnt ;)

Gizmo, I noticed that in your other thread you were considering a 1mm head skim, 40thou off of a Z6 head mated on say a 1.5 block will increase the CR to roughly 11.3:1 which is an awfull lot, and will require aLOT of tuning to get it running well, Also you will need an adjustable pulley as the timing will be a long way out as youre bringing the crank and cams 1mm closer together and you will never get the timing set up perfectly with out the vernier.

As well as your pas pump mount bracket will require work as it wont bolt up the head and block with the skim, as the bolt holes on the mount will be out and they will need widening.

a Mini me conversion raises the cr to roughly 10.4 which is fine really, if you wanted to build a cheapie high comp set up, D15 block, D16z6 head and D16a9 pistons  gives around 11:1 CR with out the need for a head skim, so the timing, and everything else will be alot easier to set up,

As well as keeping stock MR H parts. I would always use a Vernier pulley as they allow decent timing adjustment, and on a dohc set up you can a decent overlap.

i duno, torn for which way to go. easiest option is just the head, were as i could also get the head and block, swap over the D14 flywheel, clutch, box etc.

1mm skim maybe just to much, i agree, either way, ill have it skimmed, and possibly gas flowed before i install the head.
