Been a long while since i've made a project thread, not had the time with work etc. But JAE got me in the mood to make one up for one of my cars.

So first things first i bought this to be a daily but well i kinda got a little carried away

Its a 1991 Shuttle 1.4 GL. I bought the car as a rolling shell basically from a guy local to me. He'd already carried out alot of work but i had to redo most of it as we had very different plans.

a couple pics of it pretty much how i got it

The majority of the work had been arried out to the engine bay. The bay had been fully smoothed out and resprayed a biege colour of some sort. all pretty standard BUT he had also had the strut turrets cut off completely and raised up by around an 1".

Due to this i stripped the engine bay back completely and re-welded everything seriously glad i did as the guy who had done the job for him was a complete cowboy welding was HORRENDOUS

I cant find any pics of it where i re-welded it just the re-smoothing pics probably because i was so pissed off about having to do it :oops:Lets just t#say the shuttle has been a problem child from the get go

After some filler and some sanding things were starting to take shape again

After much deliberation ! I managed to settle on a colour. As most will know i do love my Root beer metallic after building my old early spec hatch. I was planning on going for that but it lacked risky-ness  So in the ed i opted for this......

Now the engine was painted the next challenge was A. what engine do I fit ? B. What gearbox do I fit ?

I decided to use a D16Y9 that i had in the garage for some time. Similar to a Z6 however without Vtec. Wasnt planning on it being a speedy car all im after is economy really. So i began by stripping it down and swapping the cambelt mount etc over then painting it all up gotta love a clean engine :OD I also decided to stay Auto as its supposed to be a easy daily driver i wanted somethig which i could just jump into and bomb around in.

Image

Problem you have with auto...The box is HUGE  So new challenge getting the engine and auto box into the bay without scratching it Hmmmmm

Engine in from the underneath seems best option

Image

All in no scratches !!

Ok slightly OTT on the pic front

You're not wrong there man UBER ballache. Hate doing prep had the body work guy at work do it shaping etc. I just did all the welding filled all the holes in the bay with weld too. So as little filler as possible 8)

Few more pics of the progress on the shuttle. Havent touched it since JAE need to source a new wiring loom out for it  But other than that its going well

When i bought the car a lot of welding had been done....badly by the engine bay :? the sills however looked kinda ok, not as pretty as id like but foook it Shuttle has covers  Still the N/S/R arch had rotten away and been filled with fibreglass. So i chopped it out and made up a repair panel using an old front wing from 63 plate Jazz. A new car dies an old car survives :OD

Cut to shape

Image

Image

Image

Nice and solid again 8)

Also had a bit f a dilemma colour wise i hate superior blue  So only one option PURPLE EVERYWHERE

Image

Image

Image

Image

Also if a smoothed bay wasnt enough i did a tad more carried away....

Image

Tucked brake prop valve

Image

NEVER AGAIN the worst job i have ever done on a civic, then of course the prop valve wasnt working right so after fitting it all i then had to change it under the dash -_- I'll admit there was a slight temper tantrum at that stage

Rear subframe all removed and repainted. Also again getting carried away. I kinda fitted a VT rack so I could get rid of all the power steering lines. The whole daily thing sorta fading into yeahhhhhhhh not happening

Image

And well since id already gone this far to make the car completely useless as a daily, i decided to make it completely un-drivable to when i saw Lee's D2's up for sale. I mean how could i not ?! They were even colour coded........Yes that actually was a huge factor in buying them  Oh and PIKEY pipe Shuttle exhausts are a mystery to me so i bodged one up for time being.

Image

Hmmm still have an inch n a bit of coilover thread left.....yep id say the turret mods work

Image

Image

BIt more prep work on the body

Image

Made a trip to see Pete for a T bar and Decat pipe has i didnt have a spare T bar panel

Image

Windscreen had been destroyed when the strut tops were modified LOADS of metal filingt stuck in it felt like 60 grit sand paper. So out that came

Image

All painted like the door shuts

Image

New screen fitted, best part on the whole car !

Image

Annnnd i think thats about everything barring getting the car running but then once running found some odd wiring issues that i just cant figure out so new loom should sort that.

One last pic of the engine back together-ish pics are a bit of a jumble but you get the idea lol

Yep well the plan wasn't to go quite as far as this admittedly  Just did my usual cant be trusted with anything for more than a day without modifying it

Yeah the strut towers were pioneered by the previous owner i just came along and finished it properly re-welded everything. I have a good inch and a half left on the front coilovers w#before being wound all the way down  Could have the chassis on the floor

Has been very slow progress on this due to waiting on it getting painted

But heres a few pics of the little progress so far !

How much coilover i have left to thread down VS ride height

Image

LOTS of natural negative camber

Image

Main bit of progres it moved 10 ft so we could get the bosses Sierra off the 4 post ramp

Image

Then Finally a bit of base coat ! So we ca do final prep etc. ITS ALMOST ONE COLOUR AGAIN !! xD

Image

Image

Image

Image

Apologies some of the pics arent great had to use my phone  But you get the general idea.

Most of it is going to colour coded barring the bump strips and the tops f the bumpers which will be gloss black.

Not sure whether to colour code the sill trims or paint those black too, opinions ?
