Another weekend, another update...

Ordered some new scuttle panel clips as they had all gone brittle and snapped.

Finally got hold of an engine crane to borrow, so time to strip the old block down. you will remember rebuilt the head just before christmas, with the smoking deemed to be the block, i decided i will re-use it on the block. I also needed the oil pick up, as i need to use an A6/A9 sump to clear the gearbox, i also need the matching oil pickup (the Z6 one is to tall, it bottoms out on the bottom of the sump, meaning it will not bolt up)

Also cleaned the new sump up. its in fantastic condition, but needed a tidy up, sanded it all down using 320 and 240 on my mini-da sander, couple coats of Etch, couple coats of Satin black

I wanted to re-assemble the new engine today, but with a lack some tools needed, some RTV and some ARP grease. So thats all ordered now.

So, until that turns up. thats it for now.

More progress...

Stripped the paint off the rocker. i had painted it before, but it had become putting with the paint flaking. possibly due to lack of etch primer and cleaning

Go red, nice accent in the bay I think and it will suit because of the car color

New crank end seal.

Image

D16A6/A9 oil pickup installed.
Image

I took the Oil pump apart again and gave it another porting session, got hold of a Die Grinder which made the process easier (had been using a cordless drill beforehand!) Back together with a new crank seal.
Image

New sump gasket, on the new sump went!
Image

hopefully the oil pump doesn't eat itself alive on first start...

I really hope it works out for you.

I miss this project stuff, still so pissed off it never worked out for me.

Most of the fun is building it and watching it come together.

More work...

Prepared subframes for paint.
Image
Image
Image

Suspension gubbins...
Image
Image

Gave the gearbox a bloody deep clean and lick of paint.
Image
Image
Image
Image

Also removed the bash guard off the gearbox. it had collected about 2kg's worth of dirt over the years! Cleaned it, prepped it. painted it...
Image

Newly painted box next to my spare one...
Image

Thats all for now...
