That sound deadening on the bonnet makes a good difference, I wouldn't have removed mine if it wasn't for the Engine rubbing on it, even with it off I only a have about 2mm of clearance.

Bonnet Dampers...

I also took apart my catch can, it was spotless inside! not a spot of oil insight! it shouldnt be like this...

So, i packed it out with some Scrotch Brites, Got a 4 Pack from Tescos!

I then cut a peice of 8mm hose i had, and inserted it into the fitting that goes to the PCV Box, and cut it so it came down half way into the Catch can!

Hopefully this will stop oil smell being so strong!

Also been tuning the AFR's, got them to a point where im happy, getting some economy aswell as some poer in the revs!

Although WOT AFR's are still very rich! so going to swap over some needles, springs and stoppers from my old carbs to see if this cures it!

Corten Millers is a performance garage about 15mins from my house, whats good about them, is that they have a dyno dynamics!

Had a power run this morning, 3 runs back to back!

Image
Image

Results...

AFR's
Image

Torque
Image

119bhp @ 6900rpm
105ft/lbs @ 4000rpm

Running quite rich, almost flat 12.2AFR's through the hole rev range, the tester and a few other people couldnt beleive how flat the AFR range was!

Also said if the VTEC point was set at between 4000-4500rpm, i could see 110-115ft/lbs

you can see the VTEC point quite clear, set quite high as the VCON unit is playing up.

on a sidenote, relocated my choke cable yesturday

Just thought i would add this!

Prior to the first run, the Carbs were set at 1.5 turns out on the mixture screws.

he did 2 runs back to back, both runs identical!

he then suggested leaning the mixture out, so i turned the carbs to 1 turn out, and yet again, the run was identical! AFR's, Power and Torque, exactly the same as the previous 2 runs.

the Mixture screws only seem to be effecting idle.

He suggested that i find a Needle book and order some leaner needles?

Im Running D15b Needles, will D14a1 needles make a difference?

Nice numbers,

How ever i am going to disagre with Corten millers, lowering the vtec to 4500 will leave a hole in the power band, the vtec generally should be set at the point the power and torque cross over so in your case 5300rpm.

TBH, any 1 who tunes a honda with vtec SHOULD run the car up with vtec set very high then set very low, put the graphs together and you should see where the low cam dies off and the high cam picks up so you get a smooth transition from low to high cam this will keep the power band smooth at the moment you have a dip at 5500 which is where the low cam is dyeing off and the high cam has to try and pull the power back up again.

try vtec at 5300, that would be my first bet.

as for the d14 over d15 needles its worth a shot, the only major dfference is the aggression of the taper.

If you can get the afr's to roughly 13.5 (a good safe area) you should see another 5-10 bhp

Also the mxture screw wont change a huge amount at the top end as they are slow idle control, your carbs dont have a high speed adjustment, try making sifferent height stoppers for the slides, (as i mentioned else where, the sldes go to high at WOT causing the carbs to run rich, if you can reduce the height of the slde ths will reduce the height of the main needle thus leaning you out, the down sde beng not as much air will be getting in.
