New to Hondas but big plans (K20)

Post by Morgandan »

Ill be doing a build thread in the 4G projects section but seeing as this is the "introduce yourself" thought i would start here.

Between me and a mate (Rob from now on: RJF on civiclife) we decided to embark on a 4G build. I havent got much experience with Hondas other than what i helped Rob do to his coupe before.

We picked up a 1.4 GL auto still on carbs with a manual choke; completely standard with only 77000 miles in the 26 years its been on the road. Immediately fell in love with the car for reasons i cant explain; its slow, very slow! Has bouncy suspension, no feel through the steering and a whole host of other things that make this "shitty old honda civic" (in most peoples eyes) so much fun. The day i picked it up i did a 650 mile trip to cornwall for the weekend before i even took it home. Were well over 1000 miles in it now and it hasnt skipped a beat; its turned out to be an awesome car especially for the money we picked it up for. Theres a small amount of rust in the rear arches but nothing major and the rest of the shell (not including some laquer peel on the bonnet) is quite immaculate! Suspension arms are all rust free and so are the bolts holding them together. Perfect shell for the project really.

Knowing this was going to be a big project and cost a lot (and other reasons) i had to sell up my RX7 :( loved this car so it really was hard to let it go (heres a picture) :(

Ok down to business, heres the GL we picked up.

And heres the Ep3 i bought as a doner car (k20 really is happening)

So far we have placed a huge order from america for conversion parts, got pedals, trailing arms, wheels (RPF1's) an ep3 and a GL
Still to go is the rest of the conversion parts; new arches; rollcage; paint and then we finally get to take it on the track.
Were aiming to finish it next spring but thats a target which is hard to meet so we will have to see how it goes.

Ill be running a build thread with more details on the 4G project section from now on with more detail about what has happened so far and everything in the future. Rob is also running one on the Hondas.in.south facebook page (check it out and come down to our monthly meets!) and one on civiclife.net
Be sure to follow it im confident its goig to be one hell of a journey :)
