I agree with jonny, it's illegal and can make your insurance void blah blah blah but as long as you don't make a claim, they wouldn't actually know. Yes they need to be declared, any change from when the vehicle left the factory is classed as a modification. Non-declaration could potentially mean void cover. Some companies do not like modified cars and will not insure you once mods are declared, some insurers will charge huge additional premiums...
