thanks guys, this is a PITA lol, well i took it to the garage and they had a good look at it, got it up on the ramp, and they haven't got a clue what that thud is! its sounds worse if you put in in reverse and then lift the clutch. i give up!

ok, the inner boot is actually split. BUT i've had a look at the radius rod on the passenger side and tried to take it apart, after the nut this metal bit came out and then the bush, but only ONE, according to the honda OEM diagram there are TWO, but all i can feel is a long sort of tube that moves ...

Could be the rear mount. Put the car in gear with ignition off, stand at the front of the car and rock it backwards/forwards, see if it makes the thud, or if there is excessive play. yep, iv'e just tried this, but the movement in the mount is very little, the thud sound is actually coming from wher...

Iv'e changed the front AND the side mount (which was not torn or damaged at all) and the thud sound is STILL there!!!!!! what now??!!

yep, the one behind the battery is kinda crap, alot of movement there and the one at the front by the rad aint looking too good either.
